I would like to welcome you to your first year of social studies at Caribou High School. I am looking forward to the upcoming year and trust you are as well. Global Studies examines the world around us, emphasizing the five themes of geography and examining the world by regions. We will do many maps and several different projects throughout the year.
Students who are doing their homework assignments and attending school regularly, have the best chance for academic success. You would do well to keep up with the daily assignments. If you are absent, be sure to call to get the assignments from each of your teachers for that day. The weekly assignments for Global studies will be posted sometime Monday (if at all possible) on this website.
The following are the basic tools for the class. Be sure to bring:
1. your textbook (be sure to keep it covered)
2. a notebook or section of a large notebook, available for note taking.
3. A box of colored pencils.
4. an assignment booklet (this can make a real difference!)
Grading is done as follows:65% Tests, projects, major essay papers
35% Homework, daily class work. quizzes
In general, students can expect to have an assignment most weeknights (M-Th). Tests are given about once every two to three weeks and are almost always preceded by an in-class review. Tests may be re-taken only with the permission of the teacher under special circumstances as the teacher sees fit.
I look forward to working with you this year.
